Did you know that you have a superpower? Yep! It’s true. You might not know it, but there it is lurking beneath all that clutter.
- Under the busy schedule.
- Behind the monstrous stress machine that is your daily life.
- Around the corner from the demands of your job, family and pets that throw up at inopportune times (how do they know?).
The Superpower? You have an inner calm person that would love to be dusted off and displayed in your cosmic trophy case.
“Don’t be silly,” you think. “I haven’t seen that Zen person since Angelina and Brad had those twins.”
Just because you haven’t recently seen the Calm One doesn’t mean he/she doesn’t exist. It’s like the Loch Ness monster or Big Foot. Yes, it may have been sighted or it may be a hoax, but you can’t deny you’re a little fascinated by the notion.
How, for the love of all that is right in the world, can you get a peek at this centered being?
Stop and Plop
I know. What a radical thought. Stop what you’re doing. Stop that hamster wheel and do nothing for one full minute.
It will feel like the longest 60 seconds of your life.
Because you’re not striving, achieving and checking things off your never-ending, infinity-inspired to-do list. Because you’re being selfish and taking a small amount of time for yourself.
If you squint and look into the distance you will see your Zen master. Oddly enough, it is you.
If you find you must do something — anything — during those 60 seconds, try this breathing technique:
- Breathe in for 4 seconds. Expand those ribs and breathe deep.
- Hold your breath for 7 seconds.
- Exhale through you mouth for 8 seconds.
If you do this a few times, your busy, blustery, baffling brain will start to slow down. You’ll see a glimpse of white space. You will likely begin to see a shadowy figure that is your Calm One.
Go make friends with her.
